About Me

Tanya is a Canadian-American Classical Crossover Soprano and Entertainment Creative.

Tanya has performed 80 opera, operetta, and musical theatre roles worldwide including appearances with The Ohio Light Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Opera, TheatreZone, Edmonton Opera, Lyrique-en-Mer Festival de Belle-Île, The Banff Centre, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and the Tel Aviv Vocal Arts Festival, among many others. An avid traveller, she has visited 90 countries, nearly half of which she sailed to while performing at sea with Azamara, Viking, Celebrity Cruises, and Explora Journeys.

As an Entertainment Creative, Tanya envisions, organizes, and executes creative solutions and offerings in the entertainment industry. She freelances as a Cruise Director, Entertainment Manager, and is the Founder & Lead Designer at Tanya Roberts Creative, a boutique video editing and graphic design studio for performers and performing arts organizations.

Tanya is a graduate of McGill University, where she received a BMus in Vocal Performance and an MMus in Solo Song from the Schulich School of Music. As an actor, she as trained at The lee Strasberg Institute, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, The Barrow Group, and The Growing Studio. An alumna of numerous young artist programs, Tanya apprenticed with Detroit Opera, The Ohio Light Opera, Charlottesville Opera, Lyrique-en-mer Festival de Belle-Île, International Vocal Arts Institute, Motor City Lyric Opera, Opera NUOVA, and the Toronto Summer Opera Lyric Theatre.

Career highlights include solo debuts at Carnegie Hall in Mozart’s Solemn Vespers with the NYC Chamber Orchestra, and at Symphony Hall with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the Very Special Promenades Concert Series and as the Soprano I cover in Bach’s Mass in b minor; a 10-month run as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) with Sound of Austria in Vienna; a sold-out run as Lady Eugenia (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) and Mrs. Sowerberry (Oliver!) with the Utah Festival Opera; Mrs. Nordstrom (A Little Night Music) with TheatreZone; Valencienne (The Merry Widow), Fünfte Magd (Elektra) and Zweite Dame (Die Zauberflöte) with Edmonton Opera; Baker’s Wife (Into the Woods), the title role in Countess Maritza, Anna (The King and I), Lilli (Kiss Me, Kate), Frieda (Music in the Air), Dolly (Have a Heart), and Eliza (My Fair Lady) with The Ohio Light Opera; Mrs. Gobineau (The Medium) with Detroit Opera; Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, Carmina Burana, and Vaughan Williams’ Dona nobis pacem with the Mineola Choral Society; creating the role of Dora in Stephen Eddins’ A Devil’s Deal with Opera Theater Unlimited for their inaugural 48-Hour Opera Festival (for which she was awarded “Best Performer”) ; three appearances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and a residency at The Banff Centre exploring Viennese Song.

Tanya can be heard on Albany Records and seen on Operetta Archives as Maude Peck (Dream City & The Magic Knight) and Dolly Brabason (Have a Heart) with The Ohio Light Opera. She looks forward to going into the studio this summer with Grammy-winning producer Romina Arena to record her debut EP. She is a founding member of the crossover vocal quartet Prosecco. A native of Toronto, Tanya resides in New York City with her husband, Metropolitan Opera bass Ned Hanlon. She is a proud member of AGMA, AEA and CAEA.
